South End

The South End is a vibrant neighborhood located next to Boston’s Back Bay district, close to Beacon Hill and downtown Boston. It extends from Massachusetts Avenue on the west to Berkeley Street on the east, and from Columbus Avenue to Harrison Avenue, north to south. Washington Street, Tremont Street, and Columbus Avenue are the major commercial streets in the South End.

Boston’s trendy South End, is known for its brick and brownstone townhouses, tree-lined streets, brick sidewalks, parks, playgrounds, and community gardens. This area also has a number of trendy shops featuring clothing, home furnishings, specialty foods, salons, spas, and an upscale dog bakery.

The SoWa district, on Harrison Avenue, is filled with art galleries and artists’ studios. The South End Open Market, also on Harrison Street, is where local artists and small businesses sell their treasures on Sundays, from Spring through Fall. The South End is home to the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) and the school for the Boston Ballet.

In the South End, you will see people sporting the latest fashion trends, artists, gay and lesbian couples, parents pushing carriages or strollers, and people walking dogs. The brick sidewalks, rows of brownstones with bay windows and brick townhouses with small gardens, parks, playgrounds, and community gardens make the South End an ideal place to call home!
